No. 7 Hope Women's Basketball Charges Past Baldwin Wallace In RDV Sportsplex Rematch

The nationally ranked Hope College women's basketball team refused to let a rematch with Baldwin Wallace, Ohio go down to the final possession again.

The Flying Dutch attacked the basket more on Thursday to pave the way for a 70-57 victory at the RDV Sportsplex Classic in Orlando, Florida.

Hope heads into Christmas with a 10-0 overall record after two wins down south. The Flying Dutch edged Baldwin Wallace 55-53 on Tuesday by getting a defensive stop as time expired.

On Thursday, freshman guard Kenedy Schoonveld of Zeeland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) led Hope with a career-high 22 points. It was the most points by a Flying Dutch player this season.

Schoonveld, pictured, shot 77.7 percent from the field (7-of-9) and sank both of her two 3-point attempts. She also sank all six of her free-throw attempts.

The Flying Dutch finished with 75-percent foul shooting and outscored Baldwin Wallace 21-7 at the free-throw line.

Two other Hope players scored in double figures with 13 points apiece: junior forward Francesca Buchanan of Grant, Michigan (Sparta) and junior guard Victoria Swift of La Grange, Illinois (Lyons Township).

Hope withstood a second-half comeback from Baldwin Wallace (6-5) that included nine of the Yellow Jackets' 10 3-pointers for the game.

The Flying Dutch outscored Baldwin Wallace 27-21 during the fourth quarter.

Forward Sydney Diedrich and guard Riley Schill led Baldwin Wallace with 12 points apiece.

Hope returns to action on Friday-Saturday, December 29-30 at the Bluffton, Ohio Holiday Tournament.
