No. 6 Hope Women's Basketball Tops Trine For MIAA Title, NCAA Berth

Checking off another item on the season to-do list? A jubilant moment indeed.

The sixth-ranked Flying Dutch claimed their 13th Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament title with a 75-58 win against third-seeded Trine.

Hope (26-1 overall) clinched its 17th trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament by earning the league's automatic berth to the national tournament.

The Flying Dutch will learn their postseason assignment Monday at 2:30 p.m. when the pairings are announced on ncaa.com/video.

Hope secured the win with its second dominant fourth quarter in as many days.

The Flying Dutch outscored Trine 23-12 during the final 10 minutes. In Friday's semifinal, Hope rallied past Olivet for a 63-53 win with a 29-11 effort in the fourth quarter.

Senior forward Maura McAfee of Midland, Michigan (Midland HS) and junior guard Angelique Gaddy of Caledonia, Michigan (Grand Rapids South Christian HS) shared game-high honors with 16 points apiece.

Junior forward Mandy Traversa of Winfield, Illinois (Wheaton North HS) scored six of her eight points during the fourth quarter. She had a season-high 18 in Friday's win against Olivet.

Freshman forward Francesca Buchanan of Grant, Michigan (Sparta HS) scored 10 points off the bench. Hope's players totaled 31 points off the bench on 14-of-25 shooting from the field.

Sophomore guard Allie Gorcyca of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan (Mercy HS) added eight points.

Hope is now 48-11 all-time in MIAA Tournament play. 

The Flying Dutch have qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships four consecutive seasons. They reached the sectional semifinals last season.
