Hope Women's Basketball Fends Off Upset Bid From Trine

Elizabeth Perkins came to the aid of the unbeaten and nationally ranked Hope College women's basketball team against Trine for the second time this season.

The junior from Eaton Rapids, Michigan (Eaton Rapids HS) helped the Flying Dutch hold on for a 65-61 win Saturday in Angola, Indiana by scoring 10 of her game-high 14 points during the fourth quarter.

Perkins played all 10 minutes of the final quarter. She went 4-of-5 from the field and 2-of-2 from the foul line. Hope outscored Trine 19-16 during the fourth quarter.

Earlier this season, Perkins scored 12 of her game-high 22 points during the fourth quarter to key a 64-50 victory over the Thunder at DeVos Fieldhouse.

Hope improved to 17-0 overall and 9-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play. The game was the first in the second half of the league schedule.

The Flying Dutch put three other players in double figures.

Senior forward Maura McAfee of Midland, Michigan (Midland HS) recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Senior guard Autumn Anderson of Dorr, Michigan (Wayland HS) scored 11 points and sank a team-high three 3-pointers.

Junior guard Angelique Gaddy of Caledonia, Michigan (Grand Rapids South Christian HS) chipped in 10 points.

McAfee now has 925 career rebounds. She took over second place all-time at Hope by passing Kris Koenigsknecht (917 from 1997-2001).

McAfee needs 19 to become the Flying Dutch's all-time leader. Kristin Carlson holds the record with 943 from 1991-95. 

Hope returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 27 against Olivet. Tipoff is 6 p.m. at DeVos Fieldhouse. The game is sold out.
