ORANGE, Calif. – Darian Payne produced 22 points – one shy of her season high – in Albion's 69-54 loss to Chapman Wednesday night.
The senior from Lisle, Ill., also pulled down eight rebounds for the Britons. She made 8-of-13 shots from the field and 6-of-10 from the line.
Oreyana Curry scored five points in the first 3 ½ minutes as Albion sprinted out to an 11-1 lead. The Britons maintained a 15-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Albion shot 17 percent (2-of-12) and was outscored 20-7 in the second quarter.
Erin Nelson added 10 points for the Britons.
Megan Charles and Jaime Hum-Nishikado led Chapman with 13 points apiece.
Albion (3-8 overall) will begin a series of games against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals with a Jan. 6 home date against Alma.
