Britons rally for OT win

ORANGE, Calif. – Darian Payne produced 12 of her team-high 14 points in the fourth quarter and overtime as Albion College erased a 10-point deficit to earn a 54-49 victory over the University of Redlands on the opening night of the Chapman Winter Classic.

Albion trailed 40-30 with seven minutes left in regulation. Payne scored on consecutive possessions to pull the Britons within six. Payne scored another basket to make the score 42-36 and Emily Zgoda followed with a three-point basket and Oreyana Curry tacked on a layup as Albion trailed 42-41 with 3:18 left. Curry's three-point basket with 1:08 left sent the game to overtime tied at 46.

Payne scored two baskets as Albion forged a 52-49 lead in overtime and the Britons never trailed again.

Payne achieved her seventh double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds. She made one of her first six shots from the field, but she finished the night shooting 7-of-15. Curry and Jay Bard finished with 11 points apiece.

Albion, winners of two in a row to improve to 3-7, takes on tournament host Chapman on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. Eastern Time.
