Trine Softball to Host Concordia University Wisconsin for Super Regional

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University softball team will play host to Concordia University Wisconsin during the 2023 NCAA Division III Softball Championship Angola, Indiana Super Regional beginning on Friday, May 26.

The event is a best of three series, with Friday scheduled for a single game beginning at 2 p.m. The series will conclude on Saturday, May 27 when the two teams face off first at 1 p.m. with a second game to follow, if necessary. The Falcons enter the weekend with a record of 40-3, earning their spot with a three-game sweep of the Oshkosh, Wisconsin regional this past weekend. They started their regional tournament with a pair of run-rule victories, the first over Wisconsin-Superior by the score of 8-0 and the second over host institution Wisconsin-Oshkosh by the score of 9-1. Concordia Wisconsin finished off the championship with a second win over Wisconsin-Oshkosh this time by the slim margin of 1-0.

This is the first appearance for the Falcons in the super regional stage of the NCAA tournament. It is the fourth time that the team has competed in a regional with the most recent trip coming last season, when they lost to Case Western Reserve University on the final day.

Trine currently boasts a record of 38-4 after sweeping their regional last weekend. They opened the Angola, Indiana regional with a 7-0 victory over Waynesburg before advancing to the championship game with a run-rule 8-0 victory over Wartburg. They finished off the weekend with a second 4-1 win over the Knights.

This marks the sixth trip to the super regional round for the Thunder and the second-straight season they have advanced this far. They currently hold an 8-2 record in super regional games, advancing past the round four of their five attempts. Last year the team swept visiting Case Western Reserve to advance to the final site of the 2022 NCAA Division III Softball Championship where they eventually finished second in the nation.
