Trine Wins Second-Straight MIAA Softball Tournament Championship

ANGOLA, Ind. -- Trine University won its ninth Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Softball Tournament title in program history after going 3-0 over the two-day event.

On Thursday, May 11, the Thunder opened the tournament with a 2-1 victory over fourth-seeded Adrian College.  A home run by Debbie Hill and a run by Emersyn Haney, both in the sixth inning, secured the win for Trine.  Hill also pitched six innings, totaling six strikeouts.  Karson Bagelmann scored the lone run for the Bulldogs.

The Thunder closed day one with a 10-inning, 1-0 win against second-seeded Calvin University.  Ashleigh Tranter wrapped up the game with a home run at the bottom of the 10th.  Trine pitchers Anna Koeppl and Alexis Michon each pitched five innings and totaled three strikeouts each.

Trine earned the tournament title following a 7-1 victory over Calvin on Friday.  Josie Vink put the Knights on the board before seven different players scored for the Thunder: Amanda Prather, Scarlett Elliott, Reese Ruvalcaba, Debbie Hill (home run), Cassie Woods, Emily Wheaton, and Anna Gill. 

Trine receives the automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Softball Championship.  The softball championship field will be announced during the selection show on Monday, May 15, at 1:00 p.m.
