AUSTIN, Texas -- Three softball players from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) were deemed Academic All-Americans® by College Sports Communicators (CSC) on June 6.
Trine University's Anna Koeppl earned a spot on the Academic All-America® First Team. The senior pitcher boasts a grade-point average of 3.98 as an English Education major. Koeppl was voted the 2023 MIAA Most Valuable Pitcher after leading the Thunder to the regular-season title. The three-time All-MIAA honoree, who is currently in Texas for the NCAA Championship Series, is currently top three in the league with 21 games started, 15 wins, an earned-run average of 0.46, and a .176 batting average against. Prior to this year, Koeppl has been named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll three times.
Adrian College's Karson Bagelmann and Calvin University's Hannah Biddlecome were both selected to the CSC Academic All-America® Second Team.
Junior infielder Karson Bagelmann has a perfect GPA of 4.00 as a Political Science major. Bagelmann was named to the All-MIAA First Team after assisting the Bulldogs to a 10-6 mark in league play (28-15 overall). She concluded the 2023 campaign as the league's leader with 150 at bats, 62 hits, 30 stolen bases, 85 assists, and 13 double plays.
Graduate student Hannah Biddlecome was deemed the 2023 MIAA Most Valuable Position Player after leading the Knights to a 13-3 record in conference play (29-11 overall). The outfielder became a four-time All-MIAA honoree this season. Biddlecome finished the year as the MIAA's leader with a batting average of .477 and second in the league with 61 hits. She was a member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll last year.
To be considered for CSC Academic All-America, one must be a sophomore or higher in academic standing, be a starter or a key reserve, and hold a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.50.
