Hope Softball Loses Twice At Illinois Wesleyan Tournament

The Hope College softball team dropped its first two games at the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament on Friday in Bloomington, Illinois.

The Flying Dutch fell to 13th-ranked Washington-St. Louis 4-0 and Illinois Wesleyan 6-1.

Against Washington-St. Louis, centerfielder Autumn Anderson of Dorr, Michigan (Wayland HS) collected two of Hope's four hits. Shortstop Jenna Maury of Lawton, Michigan (Lawton HS0 and third baseman Katrina Ellis of Goodrich, Michigan (Goodrich HS) each had one.

Washington St. Louis (24-7) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer.

Against Illinois Wesleyan, first baseman Shay Pinhey of Ann Arbor, Michigan (Pioneer HS) drove in pinch-runner Vanessa Brockhouse of Fort Wayne, Indiana (Northrop HS) in the second inning with a single for a 1-0 lead.  Illinois Wesleyan (17-4) answered with a four-run second.

Pinhey had two of the Flying Dutch's four hits.

Hope (10-10 overall) is scheduled to play twice on Saturday: 9 a.m. Central vs. Wisconsin-Eau Claire and 4:30 p.m. Central vs. Wisconsin-LaCrosse.
