Hope Softball Beats St. Benedict 3-2 On Walkoff, Then Hood 5-2

The Hope College softball team enjoyed a walkoff win, then another victory on Wednesday during their spring break trip in Clermont, Florida.

The Flying Dutch beat St. Benedict, Minnesota 3-2 and Hood, Maryland 5-2 to raise their record to 6-2 overall.

Against St. Benedict, rightfielder Sammi Adams of Griffith, Indiana (Griffith HS) delivered a game-winning single to plate Katrina Ellis in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Reliever Katie Singer of Howell, Michigan (Hartland HS) tossed three scoreless innings for the victory. She is now 1-0.

Centerfielder Autumn Anderson of Dorr, Michigan (Wayland HS) contributed a RBI triple in a two-run first for Hope. She went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Against Hood, Anderson led the way with three hits and two runs scored.

Second baseman Sierra Mutschler of Wayland, Michigan (Wayland HS) went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. She had an RBI single in a three-run first and a two-run single in the fourth.

First baseman Shay Pinhey of Ann Arbor, Michigan (Pioneer HS) went 2-for-4 with a RBI triple.

Winning pitcher Sydney Jones of South Lyon, Michigan (South Lyon East HS) went the distance for her second win. Jones (2-2) struck out four.

Hope returns to action Thursday with games against Loras, Iowa and St. Scholastica, Minnesota.
