Hope's Wells, Alma's Stratton Earn MIAA Softball Player of the Week Honors

The MIAA has named Hope first baseman Peyton Wells its Position Player of the Week and Alma righthander Morgan Stratton its Pitcher of the Week in softball for games played through April 5.

Position Player of the Week
Wells, a senior from Rockford (Rockford HS), hit .462 (12-for-26) with five home runs, three doubles, 12 RBI, nine runs scored and a slugging percentage of 1.231 in leading the Flying Dutch to a 6-2 record for the week. She belted two homers, including a grand slam that put Hope ahead to stay, drove in six runs and stole two bases as the Flying Dutch rallied to beat Trine, 15-10, ending the Thunder’s MIAA-record 49-game conference regular season winning streak. She also delivered a walk-off game-winning single in a 2-1, eight-inning nonconference win over Wheaton, Ill. Wells is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time this season and second time in her career

Pitcher of the Week
Stratton, a sophomore from Grand Blanc (Grand Blanc HS), posted a 3-0 record with three complete games, two shutouts and a 0.33 earned run average in leading the Scots to a 5-1 start to the MIAA season. She threw a four-hitter and struck out seven in a 3-1 win over Hope, struck out nine in a three-hit shutout of Kalamazoo, 5-0, and fanned eight in a six-hit shutout of Olivet, 2-0. Stratton, who is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in her career, struck out 24 batters and allowed only 13 hits and two walks in 21 innings pitched for the week.
