Trine’s Searles, Hope’s Hiser Named   MIAA Softball Players of the Week

The MIAA has named Trine outfielder Carly Searles its Position Player of the Week and its Pitcher of the Week in softball for games played through March 22.

Position Player of the Week
Searles, a senior from Levering (Petoskey HS), hit .650 (13-for-20), including six for extra bases, had slugging percentage of 1.350, scored 12 runs, drove in six runs and stole five bases as she led the Thunder to a 6-0 record for the week. In a doubleheader sweep of DePauw, Ind., she went 4-for-7, including two home runs, a triple and a double, and knocked in five runs. She went 6-for-7, scored five runs, stole three bases and hit a walkoff home run in a sweep of John Carroll, Ohio. Searles is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time this season and third time in her career.

Pitcher of the Week
Hiser, a senior from Westland (Livonia Churchill HS), won two games, saved another and did not allow a run in 14 innings for the Flying Dutch during their spring trip. She threw a three-hit shutout, struck out six and did not walk a batter in an 8-0 victory over Ripon, Wis., and four innings of one-hit ball in an 8-2 win over Anderson, Ind. Hiser is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
