Saint Mary's Busfield, Burke Named Softball Players of the Week

The MIAA has named Saint Mary’s catcher/designated player Jillian Busfield its Position Player of the Week and Saint Mary’s righthander Sarah Burke its Pitcher of the Week  in softball for games played through March 15.

 

Position Player of the Week
Busfield, a junior from South Bend, Ind. (Riley HS), hit .367 (11 for 30) with four home runs and 15 RBIs as the Belles went 8-2 on their spring trip. She had a homer and four RBIs in a game twice during the trip, in a 7-2 win over Thiel, Pa., and in a 9-8 loss to Bethany, W.Va., as well as two hits and three RBIs in a 10-5 win over Webster, Mo. She had a slugging percentage of .800 for the week. Busfield is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in her career.

Pitcher of the Week
Burke, a junior from Homewood, Ill. (Homewood-Flossmoor HS), posted a 5-1 record with a 2.14 earned run average in helping the Belles post an 8-2 record on their spring trip to Florida. She opened the season with a no-hitter, blanking Juniata, Pa. 8-0 as she struck out seven and walked three. She also tossed a six-hitter and did not allow an earned run in a 5-1 win over Heidelberg, Ohio. It’s the first time Burke has been named Pitcher of the Week in her career.
