Trine's Searles Named National Hitter of the Week

Trine center fielder Carly Searles has been named the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Hitter of the Week.

Searles, a senior from Levering (Petoskey HS), was a perfect 14-for-14 at the plate for the Thunder this past week, with 11 runs, three doubles, a triple, home run, two walks, three stolen bases and six runs battled in. She had a streak of 16 consecutive at-bats with a base hit, the second-longest in any division in NCAA history, which ended with a ground out Tuesday against Alma. Included in the stretch was her 48th career triple, a Division III record and three away from the NCAA all-divisions record.

Searles currently leads the MIAA in hitting with a .591 average in conference play. She also leads the conference in runs scored (28) and hits (26), and is tied for the lead in stolen bases (8) and triples (2) against league opponents. She also recently became the MIAA career leader in hits, now with 104.
