Around the MIAA
Adrian
Adrian finished sixth at the MIAA Cross Country Championships Nov. 2; Robert Diebold earned All-MIAA honors for the second consecutive year.
Albion
Adam Ditri and Kiehl Smith ran to all-MIAA status as Albion tied Hope for third place in the MIAA Men's Cross Country Championship. Ditri set his third-fastest time in an 8K race this season, 26:26.2, to finish sixth among individual runners. A senior from Novi, Mich., Ditri achieved all-MIAA first team status for the second time in his cross country career. Smith, a senior from Jonesville, Mich., was 34 seconds off Ditri's pace. Smith finished 11th, crossing the finish line in 27:01.3 to earn an all-MIAA second team award.
Alma
The Scots placed fifth at the MIAA Cross Country Championships. Senior Luke Reed (Benzonia, Mich.) led the men with a time of 27:34.2. Fellow senior Jack Montgomery (Mikado, Mich.) closely followed Reed with a time of 27.34.9 and placed 18th overall.
No. 13 Calvin
Calvin captured its 33rd consecutive MIAA title with a perfect score of 15 points. It marked the second straight year Calvin has achieved a perfect score at the conference championships and the ninth time in school history. Junior Jonathan Ellis led the 1-2-3-4-5 Calvin charge by winning the race in 26:02. Tyler Johnson was second, Caleb Ferguson third, Justin Varineau fourth and Ryan Vreeke fifth to complete the sweep. Ellis was later named the MIAA's Most Valuable Runner. Calvin will now prepare to host the Great Lakes Regional Championships at its own Gainey Athletic Complex November 16.
Hope
With one of its top runners sidelined due to injury, the Hope College men’s cross country team fought its way to a third-place tie at the MIAA Championships on Saturday at Trine University. The Flying Dutchmen totaled 113 points to equal Albion College’s total. Sophomore Nick Hoffman (Holland, Mich.) ran the fastest for Hope with a 14th-place, 8K time of 27:14.4. Hoffman earned All-MIAA Second Team honors. Sophomore Evan Bleitz (Saline, Mich.) finished 22nd by clocking a run of 27:56.2. Freshman Max Gutwein (Westfield, Ind.) took 24th with a time of 28:05.0. Freshman Luke Shoemaker (Elkhart, Ind.) placed 25th at 25:05.6.
Kalamazoo
The Hornets placed eighth at the MIAA Championships hosted by Trine in Angola, Ind. on Saturday. Jackson Kelly led Kalamazoo with a 26th place finish as the senior crossed the finish line in 28:07. Caleb Patton was the second Hornet finisher as he placed 50th at 31:16. Lucas Rizzolo, Sam Meyer, and Juleon Brodie finished 51st, 52nd, and 53rd overall, respectively. Each member of the trio finished within 40 seconds on each other as Rizzolo paced the group at 32:01.
Olivet
Olivet placed seventh at the MIAA Championships.
Trine
Trine finished second at the MIAA Championships, with Jack Beakas and Vilis Vuskalns both earning first-team All-MIAA honors.
