Around the MIAA

Adrian

The Bulldogs took part in the Comet Invitational hosted by Olivet on Saturday. Robert Diebold, the highest four-year institution finisher, paced the squad with a team-best third place finish.


Albion

Sophomore Nathaniel Jennings (O’Neill, Neb.) was Albion’s No. 1 runner at a meet in Charlotte, Mich., last Friday. Jennings completed the 5K course in 17 minutes, 36 seconds.


Alma

Alma finished in third place at the CMU Jeff Drenth Invitational on Friday (Aug. 30). Senior Luke Reed (Benzonia, Mich.) posted Alma's fastest time, coming in at 16:12.74.


Calvin

Calvin will host the Knight Invits Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Gainey Athletic Complex.


Hope

Hope's Nick Hoffman (Holland, Mich.) ran away with the individual title at the Bill Vanderbilt Invitational on Saturday. The sophomore clocked a winning time of 26 minutes, 38.2 seconds on the 8K course through the DeVos Fieldhouse lawn and Buys Athletic Fields. Hoffman was 11 seconds faster than the nearest competitor. Hoffman helped Hope post a second-place finish in the three-team event with 41 points.


Kalamazoo

Did not compete.


Olivet

The Olivet College men's cross country team opened the 2019 season by hosting the Comet Open Aug. 30 at the Broadway Acres Golf Course in Charlotte. Junior Kyle Markley was the Comet finisher, as he ran the 5K race in 16:35 to finish 10th of 76 runners. Freshman Chase Mendham was next Olivet runner to cross the finish line in 16:47 to place 15th.


Trine

Trine finished second of six teams at Manchester Hokum Karem...Derek Miller and Jack Beakas led the Thunder with a combined time of 38:56 and placed third overall.
