Calvin Men's Cross Country wins Great Lakes Regional

The Calvin University men's cross country team captured their 28th Great Lakes Regional title in program history and the 21st in the last 24 years as the Knights earned an automatic berth for the 2019 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships Nov. 23, E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky.

Competing on their home course in Grand Rapids, Mich., Calvin scored 43 points to capture the Regional title. Jonathan Ellis, coming off a first-place finish at the MIAA Championship Nov. 2, finished second as the top MIAA competitor with a time of 24:03 on a course shortened due to course conditions. Calvin's Tyler Johnson placed third (24:07) while teammate Caleb Ferguson finished eighth (24:23). Ryan Vreeke (12th, 24:30) and Addison Smith (18th, 24:34) finished Calvin's scoring.

Two additional MIAA runners will compete at the NCAA Championship: Trine's Jack Beakas and Levi Neuzerling. Beakas and Neuzerling were among seven individual runners from the Great Lakes Region to advance after finishing 10th and 22nd, respectively, at the Great Lakes Regional.
