Around the MIAA
Adrian
The Adrian College men's cross country team ran at the Inter-Regional Rumble at Oberlin College last weekend and came in 15th place and featured seven personal records. The team was led by freshman Robert Diebold finishing 19th overall with a time of 26:14.4. Diebold was followed by senior Clayton Lange in 34th place with a time of 26:32.7 and sophomore Will Martin ran a 28:04.8 for 122nd place.
Albion
Albion College runners tested the best runners in Division III in a pre-national meet. Andrew Wittland (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern) was Albion's first runner, completing the 8K course in 26:17.7.
Alma
Luke Reed (Benzonia, Mich./Benzie Central) led the Alma cross country team in the Inter-Regional Rumble on Saturday (Oct. 14). Reed came in at 26:31.1 on a soft, wet course. Nathan Idalski (Gaylord, Mich./Johannesburg-Lewiston) and Karl Stroup (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) finished under 28 minutes.
No. 3 Calvin
Calvin took third place out of 50 teams with 127 points at the UW-Oshkosh Town Sports Pre-National Invitational last Saturday. Junior Tyler Johnson led the Calvin pack with a 15th place time of 25:31 as only 28 seconds separated Calvin's first and fifth runner. Sophomore Justin Varineau was 20th in 25:38 with sophomore Jonathan Ellis right behind in 22nd (25:39). Junior Addison Smith had his finest race of the season, placing 29th (25:48). Junior Caleb Furguson was Calvin's all-important fifth man, placing 41st in 25:58. Tyler Johnson was named MIAA Runner of the Week.
Hope
The Hope College men's cross country team ran against some of the top teams in NCAA Division III on Saturday during the Pre-National 8K in Winneconne, Wis. Despite sloppy and challenging course conditions, the Flying Dutchmen ran to a team score of 1,044 points in the 50-team event and finished 39th. Senior Nathan Schloff (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) led Hope by finishing in 26:41.5 and taking 120th place out of 344 runners.
Kalamazoo
The Kalamazoo College men's cross country team competed at the Pre-Nationals Meet at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wis. on Saturday. Kalamazoo finished 50th overall. Jackson Kelly posted the top time for the Hornets at 29:24 in the 8K event. Preston Grossling followed at 30:01.
Olivet
The Olivet College men's cross country team totaled 441 points to place 19th of 27 schools at the Inter-Regional Rumble, hosted by Oberlin College. Freshman Kyle McDowell was the first Comet to cross the finish line, as he completed the 8K race in 27:25.4.
Trine
Finished 27th at UW-Oshkosh Invite....Derek Miller (Shipshewana, Ind./Westview) recorded the top time for Trine of 26:28.4 .
