Calvin Men's Cross Country wins Great Lakes Regional

The Calvin College men's cross country team captured their 27th Great Lakes Regional title in program history and the 20th in the last 23 years as the Knights earned an automatic berth for the 2018 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships Nov. 17, hosted at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wis. 

The Knights scored 56 points to win, almost 40 points in front of second-place Otterbein. Leading Calvin was Addison Smith, who finished third overall with a time of 25:08.0 after winning the 2018 MIAA Cross Country Championship title Oct. 27. Also scoring for Calvin were Tyler Johnson (9th, 25:18.1), Jonathan Ellis (11th, 25:21.5), Caleb Ferguson (14th, 25:26.5) and Jamison Koeman (19th, 25:47.1).

Three MIAA teams finished in the top seven in team scoring; following Calvin, Albion placed fifth, while Trine took seventh. After Calvin's top five finishers, Albion's Andrew Wittland placed 21st overall, while Robert Diebold of Adrian finished 22nd.
