Trine Wins Fourth-Straight MIAA Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship

Trine University won its fourth Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championship title in program history, finishing the final day of events with a total of 185 points.

Albion College began the track events with a record-breaking performance in the 4x100m relay (41.35).  The previous record of 41.49 was set by Hope College in 2016.  The winning Briton quartet included Armund Gordon Jr., DaMario Chapman, Ronnie Puczkowski, and Will Davis.  Hope was the runner-up (41.35), followed by Trine in third place with a season-best time of 41.83.

Trine senior Jake Gladieux once again defended his title in the 110m hurdles with a record-breaking performance of 14.23.  The previous record of 14.41 was set in 2019.  The Thunder also claimed the next two spot with senior Greysen Spohn in second place (14.88) and freshman Zion Jackson in third (14.92).

Jordon Brown of The University of Olivet had a record-breaking performance to defend his title in the 400m run.  His time of 47.19 is currently ranked ninth in Division III.  Brown broke his previous record of 47.30 that he set last year.  Calvin University sophomore Koby VanderWoude was the runner-up with a season-best time of 48.06 which is currently ranked 27th in the nation.  Classmate Connor Lubberts finished third with a time of 49.10.

Chapman once again won the 100m dash with a personal-best and record-breaking time of 10.50 which is currently ranked seventh in the country.  The previous record of 10.56 was set in 2019.  Adrian College freshman Michael Wright had a personal-best time of 10.63 for second place, followed by Davis in third (10.69).

Gladieux broke a 25-year old record at the outdoor meet by defending his title in the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.10.  The previous record set in 1999 was 52.67.  Hope senior Nathan Woolum was the runner-up with a time of 55.55 and was trailed by Olivet junior Jonathan Holloway with a personal-best time of 56.12.

Brown had another record-breaking performance when he defended his championship crown in the 200m dash.  The previous record of 21.32 was set in 2019.  Chapman's runner-up time of 21.31 is ranked fourteenth in the country, while third-place Wright's time of 21.32 is sixteenth in the nation.

The Flying Dutchmen claimed the top four spots in the javelin throw, with the top three throws setting personal records.  Junior Aidan Kyle won the event for the third-consecutive year with a mark of 55.37m.  Freshman Matthew Bir earned second place with a 49.45m mark, followed by Wil Pinkerton in third (49.04m) and Alexander Daniels in fourth (44.30m).

Freshman DeVondre Chandler of Olivet won the high jump (1.97m) at his first collegiate outdoor championship.  Spohn was the runner-up with a season-best 1.94m, while Adrian senior Weston Kvalevog finished in third place (1.91m).

Gordon Jr. defended his title in the triple jump with a mark of 13.79m.  Second-place Jackson set a new personal record with a leap of 13.76m, while senior Briton Puczkowski placed third with a mark of 13.39m.

Freshman Bulldog Keith Scott won the discus throw with a personal-best 44.96m.  Albion claimed the next two spots on the podium with senior Eddie Hines throwing a season-best 43.83m and Derrelle Murray launching a 43.81m.

The Flying Dutchmen claimed the top two finishes in the 1500m run with Connor Vachon as the champion (3:57.45) and Eli Meder as the runner-up (season-best 3:57.90).  Trine sophomore Tyler Hartleroad rounded out the top three with a season-best time of 4:01.26.

Meder served as the champion in the 800m run with a time of 1:54.62.  Teammate Vachon earned a season-best time of 1:54.72 and was trailed by Trine junior Philip Nemecek in third place (1:56.37).

Junior Knight Luke Witvliet won the 5000m run after clocking in at 15:02.07.  The Flying Dutchmen claimed the next two spots with freshman Ian Petruska in second (15:06.86) and sophomore Carston Cole in third with a personal-best time of 15:07.98.

Calvin defended its title in the 4x400m relay with a season-best time of 3:15.64 which is currently ranked 20th in the country.  The winning quartet included Mason Schimmel, Connor Lubberts, Morrison Ismond, and VanderWoude.  The Comets finished second with a season-best time of 3:16.56 which is currently ranked 24th in Division III, while Trine finished third (3:18.86).
