Trine Crowned MIAA Men's Indoor Track and Field Champion for Fifth-Straight Season

ANGOLA, Ind. -- Trine University won its fifth-consecutive MIAA Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship title on February 24, 2024, held at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center.  The Thunder finished with a total of 203 points, followed by Hope College in second place with 109 points and Albion College in third place with 97 points.

Olivet's Jordon Brown earned a record-breaking win in the 200m dash with a time of 21.64.  Trine senior Jake Gladieux was the runner-up with a time of 21.95, followed by Adrian freshman Michael Wright in third place (22.30).

Hope senior Eli Meder defended his championship title in the 800m run with a time of 1:56.71.  Trine junior Philip Nemecek claimed the second spot on the podium (1:58.37), followed by Hope junior Connor Vachon in third place (1:59.06).

Olivet freshman DeVondre Chandler earned his first MIAA Championship title in the high jump with a leap of 2.04m.  Trine claimed the next two spots with both junior Ethan Spahr and senior Greysen Spohn jumping 1.98m.

Trine senior Kimball Hughes threw 16.28m in the weight throw to claim the top spot on the podium.  Albion senior Eddie Hines finished in second place (15.66m) and Trine sophomore Colton Zableckis followed shortly behind with a 15.57m throw.

The Flying Dutchmen won the distance medley relay with a time of 11:20.05.  Calvin finished as the runner-up (11:23.61), followed by Trine in third place (11:27.45).

Senior comet Jordon Brown won the long jump with a leap of 6.89m.  Trine claimed the next two finishes with junior Ethan Spahr in second (6.79m) and freshman Zion Jackson in third (6.73m).

Calvin junior Luke Witvliet notched a victory in the 5000m run after clocking in at 15:21.22.  Trine sophomore Ryan Hoopingarner (15:25.80) and junior teammate Joseph Packard (15:30.89) finished in second and third place, respectively.

Trine earned the top three finishes in the 60m hurdles.  Senior Jake Gladieux headlined the trio by defending his championship title with a time of 8.05.  Classmate Greysen Spohn finished in second place (8.20) and was trailed shortly behind by freshman Zion Jackson in third place (8.21).

Hope swept the top three spots in the mile.  Connor Vachon defended his championship with a time of 4:18.01.  Seniors Eli Meder (4:18.07) and Daniel Campbell (4:18.14) placed second and third, respectively.

Junior Bulldog Cameron Overmyer defended his championship title in the pole vault for the third-straight year with a performance of 4.45m.  Trine freshman Morgan Johnson finished in second place (4.35m) and junior teammate Nathan Leap in third (4.05m).

Albion junior Derrelle Murray notched a victory in the shot put with a 16.13m throw.  Senior teammate Eddie Hines was the runner-up with a toss of 15.91m, followed by Thunder sophomore Colton Zableckis in third (14.98m).

Olivet senior Jordon Brown defended his championship title in the 400m dash with a time of 48.79.  Freshman Knight Koby VanderWoude finished second (49.78) and was trailed by junior teammate Corbin DeBoer who clocked in at 50.96.

Trine junior Ethan Spahr earned the top spot in the triple jump with a leap of 13.36m.  Albion seniors Armund Gordon Jr. (13.30m) and Ronnie Puczkowski (13.26m) finished in second and third, respectively.

Albion senior DaMario Chapman notched a victory in the 60m dash (6.92) and was trailed by Adrian freshman Michael Wright (9.93).  Albion junior Will Davis rounded out the top three with a time of 6.95.

Calvin junior Luke Witvliet earned the championship title in the 3000m run after clocking in at 8:40.04.  Trine sophomore Drew Sillaway finished in second place (8:44.48), followed by freshman teammate Max Van Huis in third (8:47.52).

The Knights clinched the win in the 4 x 400m relay with a time of 3:23.38.  Hope claimed second place (3:23.69) and Albion placed third (3:25.55).
