Trine Claims MIAA Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship Title for Fourth-Straight Season

ANGOLA, Ind. -- Trine University won its fourth-consecutive MIAA Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship title on February 25, 2023, held at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center.  The Thunder finished with a total of 156 points, followed by Albion in second place with 115 points and Calvin in third place with 103 points.

Hope senior Eli Meder won the 800m run in record-breaking fashion with a time of 1:55.00.  The previous record of 1:55.19 was set in 2017 by Olivet's Connor Bauserman.  The Flying Dutchmen swept the top three spots on the podium with sophomore Lucas Guidone finishing in second place (1:56.92) and classmate Connor Vachon in third place (1:57.66).

Adrian freshman Theodore Shepherd earned his first MIAA Championship title in the high jump with a leap of 2.01m.  Trine senior Greysen Spohn claimed the runner-up position (1.98m), followed by senior Bulldog Weston Kvalevog (1.95m).

Senior Brit Mason Marden threw 17.68m in the weight throw to claim the top spot on the podium.  Calvin senior Isaac Jonker finished in second place (17.09m) and Trine senior Jacob Barkey followed shortly behind with a 17.06m throw.

The Comets defended their championship title in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:30.40.  The winning quartet included sophomore Noah Feudi, senior Chase Mendham, junior Hayden Germain, and freshman Jonathan Holloway.  Hope finished as the runner-up (10:31.32), followed by Trine in third place (10:54.64).

Trine sophomore Ethan Spahr won the long jump with a leap of 6.65m and senior teammate Ben Williams claimed second place (6.61m).  Senior Comet Jordon Brown finished the event in third place with a leap of 6.45m.

Calvin senior William Hofmann notched a victory in the 5000m run after clocking in at 14:58.16.  Trine sophomore Joseph Packard (15:00.75) and freshman teammate Ryan Hoopingarner (15:00.78) finished in second and third place, respectively.

Senior Jake Gladieux of Trine defended his championship title in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.13.  Teammate Greysen Spohn finished in second place (8.20), followed by senior Flying Dutchman Jackson Player in third place (8.47).

Hope's Connor Vachon won the mile run with a time of 4:16.08.  Sophomore Thaine Nederveld of Calvin was the runner-up (4:16.77) and was trailed by junior Flying Dutchman Dan Campbell (4:25.46).

Sophomore Bulldog Cameron Overmyer defended his championship title in the pole vault with a performance of 4.35m.  Hope senior Zach Elmore finished in second place (4.25m) and Albion sophomore Brayden Stavros in third (3.95m).

Albion junior Eddie Hines notched a victory in the shot put with a 15.84m throw.  The Thunder claimed the next two spots on the podium with senior Theodore Samra in second place (15.76m) and junior Alexander Lewis in third place (14.90m).

Olivet senior Jordon Brown earned the win in the 400m dash with a time of 49.33.  Junior Knight Corbin DeBoer finished second (50.32) and was trailed by Adrian senior Weston Kvalevog who clocked in at 51.67.

The Britons swept the top three spots in the triple jump.  Junior Ronnie Puczkowski led the Albion trio with a leap of 13.11m and was followed by junior Omar Gordon, Jr., in second place (13.02m) and sophomore Henry Wehrly in third (12.79m).

Albion sophomore Will Davis notched a victory in the 60m dash (6.97) and was trailed by junior teammate DaMario Chapman (7.02).  Freshman Flying Dutchman Liam Danitz rounded out the top three with a time of 7.05.

Olivet's Jordon Brown earned his second win of the day with a first-place finish in the 200m dash (22.07).  Albion sophomore Will Davis was the runner-up with a time of 22.47, followed by Trine's Jake Gladieux in third place (22.52).

Calvin swept the top four spots in the 3000m run with Thaine Nederveld leading the way by over three seconds (8:55.37).  William Hofmann finished in second place (8:59.07), followed by senior Brandan Knepper in third (8:59.65) and sophomore Luke Wivliet in fourth (9:00.20).

The Flying Dutchmen clinched the win in the 4 x 400m relay with a time of 3:26.30.  The winning quartet included sophomore Lucas Guidone, classmate Connor Vachon, senior Eli Meder, and freshman Wyatt Marsh.  Albion claimed second place (3:26.73) and Calvin placed third (3:27.42).
