Around the MIAA

Adrian

The Bulldogs participated at the Hillsdale Tune-Up over the weekend. Daz Lawrence grabbed a first-place finish in the high jump and Nicholas Jackson and John Hamilton placed second and third, respectively. Derek Plitt placed first in the 200m dash with a time of 22.62 and finished second in the 60m dash at 7.07. 


Albion

In the final tune-up before the MIAA Indoor Championship, Albion traveled to Hillsdale and competed well. A line-up designed to keep the men sharp for championships produced a fourth place finish. Kejuan Frazier won the shot put on his last throw and lead a group of four Britons who placed first, fifth, sixth, and eighth. Xavier Aikens won the weight throw and placed in the shot put; Aikens led a group of weight throwers who placed first, fourth, and seventh.  


Alma

Several members of the Alma College track and field team competed at the Saginaw Valley State University Tune-Up Feb. 21. Jacob Wildenhaus (Jackson, Mich.) led the charge for the Scots with a second-place finish in the 60 meter hurdles in 8.61 seconds – just .03 seconds slower than his program-record breaking time last week at the WHAC vs. MIAA Challenge. Payton Hirschenberger (Freeland, Mich.) finished fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 12.44 meters. 


Calvin

Calvin men’s track and field had a group of distance runners compete at the GVSU Tune-Up Invitational Friday night. Noah Cummisford took 13th place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:02.06 while Ryan Vreeke placed fifth in the mile with a time of 4:23.28. In the 3,000 meter run, Michael Sisko took seventh with a time of 9:12.83, and teammate Clenon Fincher was second in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 17:18.72.


Hope

Three event winners were among the highlights for the Hope College indoor men's track and field team at the Grand Valley State University Tune-Up on Friday. In the final meet for the Flying Dutchmen before the MIAA Indoor Championships on Saturday, Korey Derr, Josh Izenbart and Lukas Bruxvoort all posted first-place performances. Derr clocked a winning 60-meter time of 7.00 seconds. In the high jump, Izenbart went 1.89 meters (6 feet, 2 1/4) inches). In the triple jump,  Bruxvoort traveled 12.24 meters (40-4) for first place. Teammate David McHugh went 12.16 meters (39-10 ¾) for second. Bruxvoort came in third in the long jump at 5.95 meters (19-6 ¼). Senior Jager Haan was fourth at 5.88 meters (19-3 ½).


Olivet

Olivet geared up for the 2020 MIAA Championships by participating in the Hillsdale College Tune Up. Highlighting the meet was three school-record performances -- freshman Jordon Butler in the 60-meter hurdles (:8.54), sophomore Kyle McDowell in the 200-meter dash (:22.89) and freshman Denver Orlando in the pole vault (14'0.50"). Senior Noah Bailey took first-place in both the long jump (22'1.50") and triple jump (44'11.75"). Junior Jacob Smith finished second in the shot put (52'6.75").


Trine

Did not compete.
