Around the MIAA

Adrian

The Adrian College track and field team competed in the Midwest Elite Invitational hosted by UW-Whitewater. The Bulldogs faced top-ranked teams, including No. 1 UW-La Crosse, No. 2 UW-Oshkosh, No. 9 Washington University in St. Louis, No. 11 UW-Whitewater, and No. 14 UW-Stevens Point. The Bulldogs were led by Nicholas Jackson and Daz Lawrence in the high jump. Jackson finished in first place with a height of 2.06m and Lawrence finished second with a height of 2.01m to help the team to an eighth place finish. 


Albion

The Britons sent a group of distance runners to compete in the 5000m at GVSU. Alex Harrel ran a personal best time of 16:41.78. The remainder of the team competed at Aquinas College. At Aquinas, the Britons compete against MIAA rivals Alma College and Calvin University, as well as NAIA opponents Aquinas College and Siena Heights. Against this very good competition, the Britons finished second with a solid showing from all disciplines.


Alma

The track and field team competed at the WHAC vs. MIAA Challenge on Friday (Feb. 14). Jacob Wildenhaus (Jackson, Mich.) finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.58. Vernonell Smith finished fifth in 9.15 seconds.


Calvin

Hope

Hope College’s Korey Derr sprinted to a runner-up performance in the 60-meter dash at the North Central College Invitational on Friday in Naperville, Illinois. Derr clocked a time of 7.01 seconds during the finals and finished two one-hundredths of a second behind the University of Chicago’s Nike Reid. Two high jumpers scored for the Flying Dutchmen: senior Josh Izenbart in fifth place at 1.93 meters (6 feet, 4 inches) and Jared Lowe in seventh at 1.88 meters (6-2).


Olivet

A select group of Olivet student-athletes competed at the Grand Valley State "Big Meet." Highlighting the meet was the 4x400-meter relay team of freshman Jordon Brown, junior Tyler Peck, senior Noah Bailey and sophomore Kyle McDowell who broke the school record with a time of 3:18.63. The converted time of 3:21.81 ranks No. 14 on the NCAA DIII performance list. In the open 400m, McDowell set a school record with a time of 49.88 seconds. Junior Jacob Smith had a season-best mark of 52 feet, 8-3/4 inches in the shot put to move into 18th on the DIII performance list.


Trine

Finished second at the DePauw Invitational...Jake Gladieux set a school indoor record in the 60-meter hurdles (8.33 seconds) and was first overall...Josh Davis captured the 60-meter dash in a time of 6.99 seconds...Mitchell Martin rounded out the event winners with a first-place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 54' 2.50"...members of track team also competed at the GVSU Big Meet...Vilis Vuskalns finished sixth in the 5000-meter run with a school-record time of 14:47.27.
