Around the MIAA
Adrian
The Bulldogs competed in the Cedarville Collegiate Invitational Feb. 7. Adrian finished in fifth place in team scoring with a score of 43 points out of 17 teams. The Bulldogs were highlighted by Nicholas Jackson who finished second in the high jump at 2.03m and Daz Lawrence who finished third in the high jump at 1.98m. The Adrian men finished the day with a fifth-place finish in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:43.34.
Albion
The Britons competed against some stiff Division II and Division III competition at the Dragon Grand Prix. Trevor Knowles led the way placing third in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump. Trevor also ran a personal best time in the 200m. Marcus Freeman finished fourth in the triple jump, as well as earning a season's best in the long jump. Rounding out a strong day in the jumps was Ed Longmire making the finals with a personal best in the long jump.
Alma
Did not compete.
Calvin
The Calvin men's track and field team took sixth place at the North Central College Invitational on Saturday with a final team score of 47 points. The Knights picked up a slew of points in the 3,000 meter run as four Calvin runners placed inside the top five. Junior Jonathan Ellis led the charge by winning the race in a career-best time of 8:27.46 that currently ranks 14th nationally. Senior Caleb Ferguson was right behind in second with a time of 8:28.78 that ranks 15th nationally. Senior Tyler Johnson was third in a time of 8:32.14 that ranks 21st on the national (NCAA III) indoor list. In the pole vault, senior Jonathan Walt continued his strong indoor campaign as he placed fourth (13-11 1/4). Senior Nate Van Whye placed seventh in the long jump (21-1 1/4) while senior Jayvin Wolfe scored in the shot put, uncorking a throw of 44-5 1/2. Calvin is back in action on Friday when it competes at an invitational hosted by Aquinas College.
Hope
Did not compete. Hope is back in action Friday, Feb. 14 at the Naperville Invite.
Olivet
Olivet participated in the Hillsdale College "Wide Track Classic." For a third straight week, freshman Jordon Butler broke the school record in the 60-meter hurdles. This week, he matched his record in the first round and broke the record in the semifinals at 8.72 seconds. Senior Noah Bailey won the triple jump with a mark of 45 feet, 3-1/2 inches. Freshman Jordon Brown finished second of 35 runners in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.79 seconds. Six other Comets posted season-best performances.
Trine
Competed at the unscored Hillsdale College Wide Track Classic...Neil O'Brien won the 800-meter run in a time of 1:58.45...the team of Derek Miller, Jake Gladieux, Levi Neuzerling and O'Brien set a school record in the DMR with a time of 10:28.83...Ben Williams and Nicolas Kane both placed in the top-15 in their respective field events...Williams finished 11th in the long jump (21' 0.75") and Kane was 14th in the shot put (43' 11.25").
