Around the MIAA
Adrian
The Bulldogs traveled to Ohio Northern over the weekend to take place in their second meet of the season. Josh Light won the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.53. Adrian excelled in the high jump with Daz Lawrence placing first at 2.03m. Nicholas Jackson finished second at 2.0m, John Hamilton finished third at 1.9m, and Weston Kvalevog finished fourth at 1.85m. The Bulldogs also finished second in the 4x200m relay. The team placed fifth out of seven with 69 total points.
Albion
Albion finished fourth out of 7 teams with 75 points in the Larry Cole Invite that was hosted by Ohio Northern University Jan. 24. The Britons were led by the field events, which accounted for 51 of their points. In the weight throw, the Brits scored 14 points. Led by Xavier Aikens, who finished second with a personal best throw of 16.23m (53' 3"). In all three Briton men placed (Harlan Pfefferle fifth and Kejuan Frazier seventh) and eight earned personal bests throws (Aikens, Pfefferle, Frazier, Kiwane Perry, Jonas Manning, Will Campbell, Dom McDonald, and Victor Santillan). The Brits also performed well in the jumps. Trevor Knowles placed second in the long jump and fifth in the high jump, while Marcus Freeman won the triple jump.
Alma
Senior Jacob Wildenhaus (Jackson, Mich.) competed in the 60-meter hurdles finals, placing sixth with a time of 8.67 for Alma at SVSU's Jet's Pizza Invitational.
Calvin
Did not compete.
Hope
Hope College heptathlete Josh Izenbart finished runner-up out of a field 19 competitors at the Saginaw Valley State University Jet Pizza Invitational this weekend. The senior from Glenwood, Illinois totaled 4,429 points over seven events during indoor competition on Friday and Saturday. The field featured athletes from all three NCAA divisions and the NAIA. Izenbart recorded the top high jump among heptathletes at 1.92 meters (6 feet, 3 ½).
Olivet
Olivet started its 2020 indoor season by competing at the SVSU Jet's Pizza Invitational. Freshman Jordon Butler had an outstanding debut in a Comet uniform. He placed third and broke the school record in the long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 10-1/2 inches. He then had the fastest time of three Comet runners in the 60-meter hurdles to establish the school record mark at 8.94 seconds. Sophomore Kyle McDowell, this week's MIAA Track Athlete of the Week, set a personal-best time of 1:58.04 in the 800-meter run. The time is the fastest in the MIAA this winter. Other top performances were by freshman William Reed in the 60-meter dash (:7.17), junior Tyler Peck in the 200-meter dash (:23.30) and freshman Chase Mendham in the mile run (4:33.13).
Trine
Finished second at the Snow Day Invitational hosted by North Central (Ill.) College...The Thunder won a pair of field events as well as two running events...Mitch Martin won the weight throw (56' 5.75") and Ben Williams captured the long jump (22' 5.75")...Jake Gladieux had a winning time in the 60-meter hurdles (8.58 seconds) and Josh Davis had the top overall time in the 60-meter dash (7.03 seconds).
