Around the MIAA

Adrian

The Bulldogs split its team last week, competing at the Dick Small Memorial at Defiance College and the Midwest Elite Invitational at UW-Whitewater, finishing in seventh place against some of the toughest competition in the Midwest. Senior Randy Fry ran a 22.04 in the 200-meter to set a new indoor school record and finished in fourth place. The Bulldogs won the 60-meter hurdles, with sophomore Denzel Tinsley setting a new PR of 8.20 to move into 14th nationally. Senior teammate Jordan Davis is ninth nationally in the 60-meter hurdles and finished fourth on Saturday. Sophomore jumper Idris Daranijoh had the longest jump for AC so far this season, landing with a distance of 21’7.5” for a seventh-place finish.


Albion

Adam Ditri lowered his personal best by 20 seconds to achieve a school record in the 5,000 meters (15:01.73) during a meet at Grand Valley State University on Friday…Jumper Richard Annorat cleared 6’ 6 ¼” to win the high jump while adding second place performances in the 60-meter hurdles and triple jump at Aquinas last Saturday…Jephte Jean-Claude was the winner in the triple jump.


Alma

The Scots finished in fifth place at the Aquinas College Little Meet on Saturday (Feb. 9). Freshman Jackson Nordbeck (Livonia, Mich.) finished second in the men's 1000-meter run and fellow freshman Davis Spencer took third in the same race. 


Calvin

The Calvin men’s track and field team split its squad last weekend with its distance harriers running on Friday at the GVSU Big Meet while the remainder of its team competed at the Aquinas College Little Meet. At the Aquinas College Little Meet – Calvin took sixth with 30 points. A highlight for Calvin at the GVSU Big Meet was the performance of junior Tyler Johnson who clocked a time of 14:33.53 in the 5,000 meters that currently ranks 15th in Division III.


Hope

The Flying Dutchmen set a school record in the distance medley at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet on Saturday in Allendale. Freshman Nick Hoffman (Holland, Mich.), junior Brenden Jones (Holland, Mich.), senior Collin Thomas of (Novi, Mich.) and sophomore Zackary Murphy (Coldwater, Mich.) clocked an adjusted time of 10 minutes, 26.67 seconds. The Flying Dutchmen eclipsed the previous record of 10:28.24 clocked in 2017. Hope finished 18th in the race that featured NCAA Division I, II and III, and NAIA entrants.


Olivet

Five Olivet College men's track & field student-athletes were invited to compete at the Grand Valley State "Big Meet" Friday, Jan. 8. Freshman Kyle McDowell set a school record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.93 seconds. Freshman Kyle Markley ran the 5,000-meter run in a personal-best time of 16:20.85. Junior Noah Bailey leaped 46 feet, 5-1/4 inches in the triple jump. Sophomore Tyler Chavalia completed the 60-meter dash in 7.47 seconds. Freshman Tyler Peck tallied a season-best time of 1:26.79 in the 600-meter run.


No. 50 Trine

Competed at the GVSU Big Meet (unscored) and DePauw Invitational (4th of 13 Teams)...Jonathan Phillips and Nick Zak broke school records at GVSU with Phillips setting the 5000-meter run record (14:47.30) and Zak improved his own record in the mile run (4:17.50)...Jeffery Barnett won the long jump to lead the Thunder at the DePauw Invitational.
