Eight MIAA Student-Athletes Selected to Compete at NCAA Men's Track & Field Championships

On Sunday (March 3), the NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Track and Field and Cross Country Committee announced the participants in the 2019 NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Eight individuals from four MIAA men's indoor track & field programs have been accepted to compete at the NCAAs. The championships will be held March 8-9 at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, Massachusetts, with the University of Massachusetts, Boston serving as host.

Adrian will have four individuals competing in four events, with Randolph Fry headlining the list; Fry will compete in both the 60m dash and 200m dash after being named the MIAA Championship Most Valuable Track Athlete after winning both events at the conference meet. Joining Fry are Jordan Davis (60m hurdles), Denzel Tinsley (60m hurdles) and Nicholas Jackson (high jump). Davis' time in the 60m hurdles to qualify ranks third-fastest in the NCAAs this season.

Calvin's Tyler Johnson will represent the Knights in the 5,000m run; earlier this year, Johnson was a two-time winner at the MIAA Championship in the 3000m run and 1-mile run.

Olivet's field competitors of Noah Bailey and Jacob Smith will both compete at the NCAA Championship in the triple jump and shot put, respectively, after winning their respective events at the MIAAs.

Trine's Jeffery Barnett, the 2017 and 2018 NCAA Division III Indoor Championship runner-up in the long jump, will compete for the national championship for a third time.

For each men’s individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each women’s individual event contested, including the pentathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 12 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into the competition.
