Three-Way Tie Crowns Calvin, Kalamazoo, and Trine the 2024 MIAA Men's Tennis Regular-Season Champions

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. -- The Calvin University, Kalamazoo College, and Trine University men's tennis programs were all named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's (MIAA) regular-season champions after each concluding conference play with a 6-1 record.

This is the second conference title in program history for the Knights.  Calvin only dropped 15 of the 63 games played during the league schedule and currently holds an overall record of 14-3.  Both sophomore Ryan Broek (No. 3 and No. 4 singles) and freshman Marquis Willingham (No. 1 and No. 2 singles) went 5-0 in conference competition, while sophomore Emmanuel Henao went 6-1 (No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6 singles).

Kalamazoo earned its seventh-straight MIAA crown and its 89th title in program history.  The Hornets only lost 12 of 63 league games played this season and have an overall record of 7-9.  Both senior Gabe Vidinas (No. 1 singles) and freshman Alex Fleming (No. 2 and No. 3 singles) finished with a perfect 7-0 mark in conference competition.  Vidinas made it into the Region VI rankings last week.  Vidinas and Fleming are also undefeated in league play at No. 1 doubles.

Trine won its first MIAA regular-season title in program history.  The Thunder have an overall record of 14-4 and only dropped 16 of 63 conference games.  Graduate student Drew Dixon concluded league play with a 6-1 record (No. 5 and No. 6 singles), while both sophomore Andrew Spirrison (No. 2 and No. 3 singles) and junior Cole Goodman (No. 1 and No. 2 singles) went 5-2.  Additionally, freshman Sammy Yin gained regional recognition last week and holds a 4-2 record in MIAA at No. 1 singles.

The 2024 MIAA Men's Tennis Tournament will be held on Wednesday, May 1, and Friday, May 3.  The official bracket will be released at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24.

The winner of the 2024 MIAA Men's Tennis Tournament will receive the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Men's Tournament which will be held May 20-28.
