All-MIAA - Men's Tennis - 2023

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. -- At the conclusion of the 2023 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) men's tennis regular season, seven head coaches from the MIAA's member institutions that sponsor men's tennis voted on All-MIAA awards.

Kalamazoo College senior Gabe Vidinas was selected the 2023 MIAA Most Valuable Player after leading the Hornets to the regular-season title with a perfect record of 6-0.  Vidinas concluded the 2023 campaign with a 4-1 record at No. 1 singles in conference play and an unblemished mark of 5-0 at No. 1 doubles with partner Peter Fitzgerald.  He is now a three-time All-MIAA honoree after receiving a spot on the First Team this season.

Brett Gurzell, a senior at Albion College, earned the Dr. Allen B. Stowe Memorial Award.  This honor is in memory of Dr. Allen B. Stowe, longtime professor and tennis coach at Kalamazoo College, and takes the following into consideration: contributions to the team, leadership quality, and exemplification of ethical virtues and sportsmanship.  Gurzell played No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Brits all four years of his career.  He was promoted to captain at the beginning of his sophomore year and has served in that role ever since.  Gurzell is a three-year member of SAAC and is currently serving on Albion's SAAC Executive Board.  He is a role model both on the court and off the court and is respectful of teammates, opponents, officials, and coaches alike.  "Brett has been a huge asset to Albion's team as a player and a leader," Albion head coach Kacie Miller states, "and the values he helped instill in the younger classes are going to leave positive, lasting impacts on our program."

Trine University senior Aaron Streit received the 2023 Dr. Lawrence Green Award.  This award is a scholar-athlete award named in memory of Dr. Lawrence Green, longtime tennis coach at Hope College.  In order to be considered, individuals must be a senior and must be a letter winner of the team for two years.  As a Biomedical Engineering major, Streit boasts a perfect grade-point average of 4.0.  He has worked on many notable projects including the following: He worked on a sensor to reduce SIDS, helped perform leukemia treatments, served as a research assistant for NASA, tested environmental factors on the lymphatic system, and conducted research on colorectal cancer cell lines.  Streit is a member of Ehinger Fellows - a prestigious organization based on leadership, academics and service.  The three-year team captain was voted the most valuable teammate by his peers every year and finished with 37-21 overall in singles (ninth most wins in Trine history) and 31-26 overall in doubles.

Vidinas and Hope's Jacob Burkett and Cameron Coates each earned All-MIAA accolades for the third time in their careers.  Five players became two-time all-conference honorees including the following: Gurzell, Hope's Tyler Stafford, Kalamazoo's Peter Fitzgerald and Adnan Alousi, and Trine's Cole Goodman.
