Hope Men's Tennis Finishes Season in NCAAs

The Hope men's tennis team went 1-1 at the 2018 NCAA Men's Tennis Championships last week, advancing to the Second Round in Regional competition. The Flying Dutchmen defeated Franciscan May 10, 5-0, in the First Round before a 5-0 setback to WashU in the Second Round.

Hope (11-11) advanced after a 5-0 victory against Franciscan, taking all three doubles matches. Tim Roe and Justin Folkert, who paired for an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles, then went on to win at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively, to end the contest. Against Washington-St. Louis, the Bears won the first three points with a doubles sweep and capped the match with wins at No. 1 and No. 6 singles.

The teams will play a single-elimination tournament with the first-, second- and third-rounds played at regional sites. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps will host the team championship finals, which will be held May 21-26 at The Biszantz Family Tenns Center in Claremont, California. Student-athletes selected to the individual championships will be announced Wednesday, May 9.
