Hope Men's Tennis Sweeps Singles To Secure 8-1 Win At Alma

The Hope College men's tennis team swept singles play to claim an 8-1 win at Alma on Saturday.

The Flying Dutchmen improved their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association record to 3-1.

At No. 1 singles, freshman Michael Kiley of Muskegon, Michigan (Mona Shores HS) defeated Jared Guy 6-3, 2-6, 10-7.

At No. 2 singles, freshman Mark VanderStoep of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) beat BJSchutte 6-3, 6-2.

At No. 3 singles, freshman Christian Rhoades of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) topped Grant Hill 6-4, 6-0.

At No. 4 singles, freshman Andrew Klein of Augusta, Michigan (Kalamazoo Christian HS) downed Luke VanFleet 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 5 singles, freshman Justin Folkert of Hamilton, Michigan (Hamilton HS) claimed a 6-3, 6-4 win against Noah Ackerman.

At No. 6 singles, junior Sam Kreps of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS) earned a 6-0, 6-0 win against Damian Arthur.

In doubles play, Hope won the second and third flights against Alma (6-7, 1-3 MIAA).

Rhoades and VanderStoep beat Arthur and VanFleet 9-7 at No. 2 doubles.

Folkert and Kreps defeated Hill and Ackerman 9-8 (1) at No. 3 doubles.

Hope (4-11 overall) returns to action on Tuesday, April 19 with a 4 p.m. match at Albion.
