Hope Men's Tennis Serves Up 6-3 Win At Calvin For 2-0 MIAA Start

A near-sweep at singles paved the way for a 6-3 comeback win for the Hope College men's tennis team at Calvin on Wednesday.

The Flying Dutchmen won five of six singles flights to finish the match and remain unbeaten in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play at 2-0.

Hope improved to 3-10 overall while downing Calvin (8-3, 2-1 MIAA).

Freshman Justin Folkert of Hamilton, Michigan (Hamilton HS) clinched the Flying Dutchmen victory with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Jason Wolters at No. 6 singles.

At No. 1 singles, freshman Michael Kiley of Muskegon, Michigan (Mona Shores HS) defeated MattBuesing 6-1, 6-1.

At No. 2 singles, freshman Mark VanderStoep of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) topped MattVanWinkle 6-3, 6-1.

At No. 3 singles, freshman Christian Rhoades of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) claimed a 6-2, 6-2 victory against David Brown.

At No. 4 singles, freshman Andrew Klein of Augusta, Michigan (Kalamazoo Christian HS) beat Taylor Asfour 6-2, 7-5.

The Flying Dutchmen trailed 2-1 after doubles.

Hope earned its point at doubles when Klein and Kiley defeated Buesing and Brown 9-7.
