Hope Men's Tennis Blanks Trine In MIAA Opener

The Hope College men's tennis team served up a 9-0 win against Trine on Tuesday in its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener.

The Flying Dutchmen opened the match by sweeping three doubles matches against Trine (5-4, 1-1 MIAA).

At No. 1 doubles, freshmen Mark VanderStoep of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) and Christian Rhoades of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) defeated Judson Quinn and Victor Flynn 8-4.

At No. 2 doubles, freshmen Michael Kiley of Muskegon, Michigan (Mona Shores HS) and Andrew Klein of Augusta, Michigan (Kalamazoo Christian HS) topped Nick Cassidy and Blake Trusty 8-1.

At No. 3 doubles, junior Sam Kreps of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS) and freshman Justin Folkert of Hamilton, Michigan (Hamilton HS) beat Zach Richardson and Bryce Hernly 8-0.

In singles play, Kiley downed Nick Cassidy at the No. 1 flight 7-5, 6-2.

At No. 2 singles, VanderStoep claimed a 7-6 (5), 6-0 win against Quinn.

At No. 3 singles, Rhoades recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win against Flynn.

At No. 4 singles, Klein defeated Garrett Baysinger 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 5 singles, Kreps topped Trusty 6-1, 6-2.

At No. 6 singles, Folkert balnked Colin Couch 6-0, 6-0. 

The Flying Dutchmen (2-9 overall) return to action on Saturday, April 9 with a 1 p.m. match against Wabash, Indiana at DeWitt Tennis Center.
