All-MIAA - Men's Swimming & Diving - 2022-23

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. -- At the conclusion of the 2023 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, the six head coaches selected the 2022-23 All-MIAA honorees.

Calvin University senior Noah Holstege was voted the 2023 MIAA Most Valuable Swimmer after assisting the Knights to the championship title.  Holstege participated in four winning relays and notched three individual victories.  On Thursday, Holstege opened the competition as the second-leg swimmer of the 200 free relay, which set a new MIAA Record of 1:18.98.  Later, he broke his own record in the 50 free after defending his title for the third-straight year.  Holstege was the lead off in the record-breaking 400 medley relay.  The Knights' time of 3:14.23 was over four seconds faster than the previous record set in 2017.  Holstege opened day three by breaking a 13-year old MIAA record in the 100 back (47.62).  The Knights broke another record, previously set in 2022, with a 1:28.05 in the 200 medley relay that Holstege led off.  On the final day of competition, Holstege notched victories in both the 100 free (44.12) and the 400 free relay (2:58.40).

Senior Sam Ankley of Kalamazoo College was named the 2023 Most Valuable Diver following his performance at the MIAA Championships.  Ankley opened the competition with a first-place finish on the three-meter board (496.55).  He was the runner-up in the one-meter dive on the final day of events with a score of 489.30 -- just 4.30 points behind the champion.

In its second year, the Senior Impact Award was created to recognize the men's and women's swimmers and divers that best exemplify the MIAA and Division III in both the classroom and their communities.  Alma's Raegan Stambaugh and Albion's Justin Huttenlocher were this year's Senior Impact Award recipients.

Huttenlocher is majoring in Finance with a minor in Data Analytics and boasts a grade-point average of 3.92.  He has been a two-year team captain, Vice President of Delta Sigma Phi, and a Scholar All-American.  Huttenlocher was selected to serve as one of two students on Albion's Presidential Search Committee and has also been chosen by various faculty and administrators to serve on a number of other boards and selection committees over the past two years.

Calvin's Noah Holstege became a five-time All-MIAA honoree, while teammate Jacob Heeres and Hope's Bailey Smith earned all-conference accolades for their fourth seasons.  Receiving All-MIAA recognition for a third year are Calvin's Julien Camy, Kalamazoo's Sam Ankley, and Hope's Ben Catton and Conor East.  Albion's Justin Huttenlocher, Calvin's Forrest Peterson and Joshua Seidelman, and Hope's Christian Dunaitis and Colin Kalkman are now two-time All-MIAA honorees.
