Men's Recap

Calvin made a statement in the opening event of the 2019 MIAA Swimming and Diving Championships, as the Knights set an MIAA record in the 800 Freestyle Relay Wednesday night to win the meet's first event.

The Knights quartet of Ben Holstege, Julian Iturbe, Ryan Gelderloos, and Tim Randall posted an NCAA B Cut time of 6:42.94, improving the previous best time of 6:43.04 set by Calvin in 2016.

Albion's second-place effort of 6:46.94 by Jake Huttenlocher, Tommy Trueax, Nate Kozycki, and Mac Robertson was also an NCAA B Cut.

Women's Recap

Calvin's Anna Serino swam the second leg of the 800 Freestyle Relay in an event-best 1:51.47 to pull the Knights into the lead on the way to a first-place finish and NCAA B Cut time of 7:35.26 Wednesday in the first day of action at the 2019 MIAA Swimming and Diving Championship.

Calvin's relay squad of Hannah Chao, Serino, Valerie Edewaard, and Kendall Murphy won by over three seconds to give the Knights the early meet lead. Albion's quad of Rileigh Eding, Samantha Swingewood, Katie Ferrero, and Hannah Erickson also posted an NCAA B Cut time of 7:38.99 for second place.

Special Olympics Unified Relay

For the second consecutive year, the MIAA partnered with Special Olympics Michigan to provide a Unified Sport Event to kick-off the 2019 MIAA Swimming and Diving Championship. 

A 150-yard relay started Day One at Holland Aquatic Center, featuring three MIAA student-athletes and three Special Olympics Athletes competing in seven lanes. Energy and excitement filled the air, with a bounty of smiles, high fives, and hugs happening on the pool deck.
