Six MIAA Men's Soccer Players Deemed All-Region by United Soccer Coaches

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Six men's soccer players represent the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) on 2023 United Soccer Coaches (USC) All-Region VIII Teams.

Four Calvin University players were announced to the All-Region VIII First Team: Oliver Akintade, Colin Iverson, Chris Schau, and Daniel Wunder.

Senior midfielder Oliver Akintade earned All-Region recognition for a third-consecutive season after leading the Knights to the third round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.  He was also tabbed 2023 MIAA Most Valuable Player following a 7-0 league record and leading into a tournament win.  The four-time All-MIAA honoree concluded the season top two in the conference with 13 goals, eight assists, 34 points, 53 shots, and 4-4 penalty kicks.

Colin Iverson became a two-time All-Region honoree and a two time All-MIAA honoree this season.  The fifth-year defender previously earned a spot on the All-Region Second Team in 2022.  In starting 19 games and playing in 20, Iverson helped Calvin keep its opponents to just 17 goals.  He also contributed seven of his own goals and had a shooting percentage of .368.

Fifth-year forward Chris Schau is once again earning First Team All-Region recognition.  Schau became a three-time All-MIAA honoree this year.  He concluded the 2023 campaign as the league leader with 15 goals, 36 points, and 5 game-winning goals, while also contributing six assists and 45 shots.

Daniel Wunder, a fifth-year goalie, previously earned a spot on the All-Region Second Team in 2022.  Wunder also became a five-time All-MIAA honoree this season.  In starting 20 games, Wunder finished as the conference leader with a save percentage of .839, 1,775 minutes played, 16 wins, and nine shutouts.

Hope junior defender Cole Pauly received Second Team All-Region accolades after leading the Flying Dutchmen to an overall record of 11-4-3 with a 5-2 mark in league play.  Pauly played an integral part in keeping Hope's opponents to just 12 goals.  The two-time All-MIAA honoree also contributed four goals and two assists.

Calvin junior midfielder Alex White was placed on the All-Region Third Team.  Along with becoming a First Team All-MIAA honoree in his inaugural season on the team, White was selected as the 2023 MIAA Newcomer of the Year.  He finished as the conference leader with 12 assists, while also totaling 26 points and seven goals.
