Calvin University's Ryan Souders Voted 2023 MIAA Men's Soccer Coach of the Year

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) proudly announces Calvin University's Ryan Souders as the 2023 Men's Soccer Coach of the Year.

This prestigious accolade is a coaches vote based on the achievements of their colleagues both during regular- and post-season competition.

Souders was selected as the 2023 Men's Soccer Coach of the Year after leading the Knights to their seventeenth-straight MIAA title and the program's ninth MIAA Men's Soccer Tournament championship.  In his twelfth year at the helm of the program, the Knights went undefeated in league play with an overall record of 16-2-1 heading into the NCAA Division III Tournament.  Eight Knights received All-MIAA recognition this season, including 2023 MIAA Most Valuable Player Oliver Akintade and 2023 MIAA Newcomer of the Year Alex White.

"We feel really proud to win this award this fall amongst great coaches in our league," commented Souders.  "It’s really the coaching staff of the year award.  Our staff has been and continues to be absolutely incredible.  In addition, this can’t happen without incredible student athletes and, while biased, we have some of the best.  We also want to recognize how great Calvin is as an institution, and continues to be a place that great student athletes want to be."

Under the leadership of Souders, Calvin is currently ranked tenth in the nation.

Since taking over the program in 2012, Souders has led the Knights to twelve MIAA regular-season championships, nine MIAA Tournament titles and ten trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Calvin will travel to Waverly, Iowa, to face Greenville in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament this Friday, November 10, at 4:00 p.m. (EST).
