Trine's Tyler Murphy Repeats as CSC Academic All-American

AUSTIN, Texas – The College Sports Communicators (CSC) have unveiled the 2023 Academic All-Americans for men's soccer. For the second consecutive year, senior Tyler Murphy has been named an Academic All-American.

After receiving CSC First Team Academic All-American honors in 2022, Murphy is a Second Team Academic All-American this season. Murphy is the only Trine men's soccer player to be tabbed an Academic All-American and now becomes the first two-time honoree.

Murphy's accomplishments off the field includes a 3.97 cumulative grade point average in Trine University's design, engineering and technology program. The complete NCAA Division III team had an average 3.87 grade point average.

Already the NCAA Division III era leader in scoring, the senior forward Murphy added on to his accolades by earning First Team All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) honors in 2023. Murphy was also named the Dr. Marvin A. Zuidema Award recipient, given annually to an MIAA men's soccer senior for contributions to team play, leadership qualities, demonstration of ethical virtues and excellence in athletics and academics.

He is the program's leading scorer in the NCAA Division III era with 46 goals and 101 points in his career and holds the Trine men's soccer record for game-winning goals with 15. On the field, Murphy scored a team-high 11 goals in 2023, highlighted by a hat trick in the 4-3 victory against Kenyon College and a game-winning goal versus Hope College to help clinch the two-seed in the MIAA standings. Murphy guided the Thunder to a 7-7-3 overall record and a 5-1-1 mark in conference play.
