KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Five Calvin University men's soccer players represent the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) on 2022 United Soccer Coaches (USC) All-Region VIII Teams.

Both junior forward Oliver Akintade and senior midfielder Chris Shau were selected to the All-Region VIII First Team.

Akintade earned All-Region recognition for a second-straight season.  He became a three-time All-MIAA recipient this year after leading the Knights to their 16th-straight regular-season title.  Akintade concluded the 2022 campaign as the MIAA's leader in penalty kicks (4-4).  He is also third in the conference with 11 goals, 25 points, and three game-winning goals, all after missing three regular-season games due to injury.

Schau was tabbed the 2022 MIAA Most Valuable Player and a two-time All-MIAA honoree after his performance this year.  In starting all 22 games, Schau wrapped up play as the league's leader with 13 goals, 31 points, 56 shots, and five game-winning goals.  He is also nationally ranked in three of those categories.

Senior defender Colin Iverson, senior midfielder Mason Smith, and senior goalkeeper Daniel Wunder all received Second Team All-Region VIII accolades.

Iverson was named to the All-MIAA First Team for the first time in his career this season.  Iverson started all 22 games that he played in and helped keep Calvin's opponents to just 24 goals.  He also contributed four goals and three assists for the Knights.

Smith is now a four-time All-MIAA honoree after receiving a spot on the First Team for 2022.  In playing just 16 games this season due to injury, Smith concluded the campaign as the MIAA's leader with nine assists.  He also totaled 17 points and four goals.

Wunder also became a four-time All-MIAA recipient this year in claiming the goalkeeper spot on the First Team.  He completed his senior season as the conference leader with 1808:25 minutes played, 15 wins, and seven shutouts.  Wunder also finished second in both goals-against average (0.95) and save percentage (.800), and third with 76 saves.
