Eight MIAA Men's Soccer Players Recognized as All-Region by United Soccer Coaches

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Three Calvin University men's soccer players - two seniors and one sophomore -- garnered First Team All-Region VIII honors from the United Soccer Coaches (USC).  A total of eight Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) men's soccer players received All-Region accolades from the national coaching organization.

Calvin forwards sophomore Oliver Akintade and senior Sam Twigg, along with Knight defender Drew Van Andel, were all named to the region's First Team and are eligible for All-America honors from the USC.  Van Andel was named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player at the conclusion of the fall season and is now a four-time First Team All-MIAA honoree.  Twigg also earned his fourth All-MIAA accolades this season, while Akintade is now a two-time First Team All-MIAA honoree.

Senior Daniel Wunder of Calvin earned the goalkeeper spot on the All-Region Second Team.  Wunder is a three-time All-MIAA recipient, including two-straight seasons on the First Team.

Trine University sophomore Tyler Murphy was one of four fowards on the region's Second Team.  Murphy is a two-time All-MIAA player and was voted to the First Team after leading the Thunder to the MIAA Tournament title.

Hope College is represented by sophomore defender Brandon Fles and sophomore midfielder Matthew Wimmer on the All-Region Third Team.  Fles and Wimmer were both named First Team All-MIAA players this season, making Fles a two-time First Team All-MIAA honoree.

Junior forward Emilio Romo of Kalamazoo College claimed a spot on the All-Region Third Team.  Romo was selected to the All-MIAA First Team for the first time in his career this season.
