Two members of the Calvin men's soccer program were recently named D3soccer.com All-Americans.

Seniors Drew Van Andel and Sam Twigg have both been named to the D3soccer.com All-America Third Team.

The D3soccer.com All-America teams were released this past Wednesday.

A centerback on defense, Van Andel is receiving All-America honors for the second time this season. He also landed United Soccer Coaches All-America honors last month.

A native of Grand Haven and a graduate of Grand Haven High School, Van Andel was a four-year starter for the Knights.

He was named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player this fall and landed a spot on the All-MIAA First Team for a fourth consecutive season.

He tallied three goals this fall and concluded his Calvin career with eight goals, four assists and 20 points.

Van Andel was granted an additional fifth year of eligibility due to the Covid-19 pandemic that wiped out the 2020 fall season but allowed Division III schools to play a spring 2021 regular season without using a year of athletic eligibility. In receiving a fifth year, Van Andel became a member of five MIAA regular season championship teams. He is the only player in MIAA history to do so.

A forward, Twigg hails from Auckland, New Zealand. He led the Knights in scoring with 41 points on the strength of 18 goals and five assists. Twigg finished 14th nationally in goals scored and 19th in points.

Twigg was named to the All-MIAA First Team this past November and was also named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Central Region First Team. He is receiving All-America honors for the second time in his career as he received United Soccer Coaches All-America honors in 2019.

Van Andel and Twigg helped Calvin capture the 2021 MIAA regular season title this fall while also earning a bid to the NCAA III Tournament with the Knights finishing 17-4-2 overall and reaching the Round of 16 of the NCAA III Tourney.
