Trine Earns Program's First-Ever MIAA Men's Soccer Tournament Title

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Fourth-seeded Trine University earned a 2-0 win at No. 2 Kalamazoo on Saturday, November 6, to secure the program's first-ever Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Men's Soccer Tournament championship title.

After a scoreless first half, two-time All-MIAA forward Tyler Murphy put the Thunder on the board with a goal just over five minutes into the second half.  With less than two minutes left on the clock, Alhusain Yahya sealed the deal for Trine, with Koen Droese credited with the assist.

Thunder goalie Troy Saylor concluded the game with a total of nine saves, while 2021 Newcomer of the Year Gavin Houtkooper totaled seven saves for Kalamazoo.

Murphy and Trine midfielder Brian Morris each tallied three shots, while Morris tied for a game best with three shots on goal.

Hornet Michele Alia had five shots and Chad Ewing totaled four.  Alia also tied for a game high with three shots on goal.

Trine receives the automatic bid into the 2021 NCAA Men's Soccer Championships.  The DIII selection show is scheduled for November 8 at 1:30 p.m. ET.  The First Round begins November 12-14 at multiple sites.
