Two men's soccer players from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) were named to the 2021 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® 6 Team. Both Calvin's Drew Van Andel and Hope's Ryan Flynn will advance to the national ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America®.
The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Men’s Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July.
Van Andel, a senior defender for Calvin, has a grade-point average of 3.53 and is majoring in Environmental Sciences/Conservation. Van Andel assisted the Knights to the 2021 MIAA regular-season title after a perfect conference record of 6-0. Van Andel is a three-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll honoree.
Flynn, an Exercise Science major, boasts a GPA of 3.59. The Hope midfielder helped the third-seeded Flying Dutchmen to the 2021 MIAA Men's Soccer Tournament crown.
CoSIDA's NCAA Division III District 6 includes Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Members of CoSIDA from the district vote on Academic All-District® honors. Student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 GPA on a 4.0 scale and must have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution to be eligible.
