KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Three Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's soccer players were named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-North/Central Region teams, the national coaching organization announced Dec. 16.
Calvin's Ian Adams and Jacob Lyon were named to the nine-person Scholar All-North/Central Region First Team. As first-team selections, Adams and Lyon are eligible for Scholar All-America honors, which will be announced Wednesday, Dec. 18. Kalamazoo's Ben Meschke was selected to the second team.
Adams was named a United Soccer Coaches Second-Team All-American earlier this month after registering eight goals and 17 assists in 2019. Adams, who is majoring in computer science and mathematics, was also named a CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team performer.
Lyon, a biochemistry major, received All-MIAA First Team honors for the third consecutive year and United Soccer Coaches All-Region accolades for the second straight season. Last winter Lyon received Division III All-America honors from both the United Soccer Coaches and D3soccer.com.
Meschke led Kalamazoo with 14 goals and 29 points this year. Meschke's attacking led the team to an 11-5-2 record overall and 4-2-1 in MIAA play in a season where the Hornets earned its first NCAA III Tournament berth since 2001.
