The Calvin men's soccer team posted a pair of shutout wins to remain one of four teams in the 2019 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship, tallying two wins at North Park University Nov. 22-23. The Knights deafeted host North Park in the Third Round, 1-0 in double overtime, before a 3-0 win against Luther in the Natlional Quarterfinals.
Calvin (23-1-1) started with a 1-0 sudden-victory win over the host North Park side, with Ian Adams scoring in the 109th minute - just 82 seconds away from penalty kicks. Adams' beat North Park goalkeeper Mathias Stulen low and to the right to advance.
Against Luther, Calvin got on the board in the 11th minute on a goal from Justin Wojcik and added a second first-half goal by Sam Twigg in the 36th minute. Hunter Olson added an insurance strike in the 85th minute. Both Olson and Twigg assisted on the other two Calvin goals they did not score.
Calvin goalkeeper Chris Morrish made three saves at North Park and four saves against Luther.
Calvin joins Amherst, Centre, and defending national champions Tufts as the final four teams remaining; Calvin will face Tufts in the National Semifinal in Greensboro, N.C. Dec. 6, with the winner facing the winner of Amherst and CEntre Saturday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m.
