At the conclusion of the 2019 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's soccer regular season Friday (Nov. 1), head coaches from the MIAA's eight member institutions that sponsor men's soccer voted on All-MIAA awards.
Calvin's Hunter Olson was selected as the MIAA Most Valuable Player after leading Calvin to a 7-0-0 record in MIAA play for the second consecutive year on the way to claiming the 2019 MIAA Championship. Olson, a senior midfielder, notched three goals and an assist during MIAA play.
Olson headlined a list of seven players that garnered All-MIAA honors for the third time in their careers; joining Olson on the first team were three-time honorees Ian Adams of Calvin, Isaac Braak of Hope, and Jacob Lyon of Calvin. Second-team All-MIAA selections receiving all-league honors for the third time were Kalamazoo's Nick Kraeuter, Adrian's Justin Tobin, and Calvin's Dillon Weldy.
Hope's Alec Belcastro was named Newcomer of the Year. Belcastro ranked fourth in MIAA games in points (4-5-13) with two game-winning goals for the Flying Dutchmen against MIAA challengers (vs. Alma, vs. Kalamazoo).
Kalamazoo's Matt Turton was selected the winner of the Marvin Zuidema Award. Presented to a senior selected for contributions to team play, leadership qualities, demonstration of ethical virtues and excellence in athletics and academics, the Marvin Zuidema Award was established in 1999 in honor of the late Dr. Marvin Zuidema, longtime men's soccer coach and athletic administrator at Calvin.
