Along with two teams - Alma and Kalamazoo - going 2-0 against MIAA competition last week, Adrian ended #18 Calvin's winning and shutout streak against conference challengers with their home victory Oct. 8. Among the week's notables:
• Alma took over the #2 spot in the MIAA standings with a 2-0 week on a pair of shutout victories. Midweek, Alma topped Adrian 1-0 thanks to a goal by Noah Canlas (Fr., M, Naperville, Ill.) in the 36th minute. Then, with a 2-0 victory over Hope Oct. 8, the Scots moved into second in the league just past the midway point of MIAA play. Austin Gabris (Sr., M, Spring Lake, Mich.) scored an insurance goal in the 63rd minute against Hope.
• Kalamazoo benefitted from a 2-0 week to pull closer to cracking into the top four in MIAA standings with a pair of shutout victories in league action. The Hornets started with a 1-0 win at Albion Oct. 5, as Cal Kirchen (Sr., F, Ann Arbor, Mich.) shook the nets in the 32nd minute for the game's lone score. In Saturday's road contest against Olivet, Kirchen struck twice in the span of just over three minutes midway through the second half in the Hornets' 2-0 win. Griffin Hamel (Jr., GK, Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) commanded the net in both shutout victories.
• Adrian rebounded from their mid-week setback to Alma Oct. 5 with a 1-0 victory over #18 Calvin Oct. 8. The win was the first victory by the Bulldogs over Calvin since the 1997 campaign and ended Calvin's MIAA unbeaten streak in regular season play at 37 matches. Brandon Katona (So., M, Detroit, Mich.) scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 18th minute, while Spencer Brown (Fr., GK, Monroe, Mich.) anchored the defense with six saves.
