Calvin Men's Soccer Punches Ticket to Salem After 4-1 Win Over Franklin & Marshall

GRANTHAM, Pa. - The #16 Calvin men's soccer team (22-2-0) scored four unanswered goals in the second half after trailing early in the second stanza Saturday evening as the Knights defeated Franklin & Marshall 4-1 to advance to the semifinals of the 2016 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship at Shoemaker Field.

Calvin will take on the winner of Sunday's contest between Rutgers-Newark (21-3-0) and Brandeis (12-5-4) on Friday, Dec. 2 in Salem, Va. with a time to be determined.

After a scoreless first half, #14 Franklin & Marshall (15-3-4) scored in the 49th minute after coming out of the intermission with high pressure. Calvin responded in the 60th minute, when Isky Van Doorne converted to knot the game at 1-1.

Just over one minute later it was 2-1 Calvin when Bobby McCaw tallied his eighth goal of the postseason. From there, the Knights didn't look back; Calvin continued to press, resulting in goals in the 71st and 75th minutes by Jacob Lyon and Stephan Hooker, respectively.

Calvin goalkeeper Nate Van Ryn finished with a season-high 12 saves as Franklin & Marshall had a slim 23-22 shots advantage on the night in wet and windy conditions.
