Calvin Men's Soccer Advances to NCAAs Final 16

The Calvin men's soccer team heads to the Round of 16 for the second consecutive year and seventh in program history after a pair of 1-0 victories in the First and Second Rounds of the 2016 NCAA Tournament Nov. 11-12.

Calvin started off with a 1-0 victory against Ohio Northern Nov. 11, as Bobby McCaw (So., F, Dubuque, Iowa) scored the game's lone goal in the 31st minute. Calvin held Ohio Northern to just seven shots, as Nate VanRyn (Jr., GK, Grandville, Mich.) stopped three shots on goal.

Calvin (20-2-0) then advanced with a 1-0 win over host school Carnegie Mellon Nov. 12. Again it was McCaw, this time with a header in the 54th minute on a corner kick by Jacob Witte (So., D, Grand Rapids, Mich.) and a header assist by Trent Vegter (So., D, Hudsonville, Mich.). VanRyn again anchored the defense, making five saves in the 14th shutout of the season for the Knights.

The first team to advance to the Round of 16, Calvin awaits the winner of Sunday's contest between Messiah (Pa.) and Christopher Newport (Va.).
